The NAIF Team will be offering a SPICE training class in the Pasadena, California area this Spring. The exact dates have not yet been finalized, but it now appears it will be either: April 23, 24, 25 or May 1, 2, 3 . We know some of you would have liked to have the class much sooner, but I'm afraid we can't make that work.

The class will again be aimed at "beginners," very similar to past classes. (We have not yet had time to develop an advanced class.) It will make use of the tutorials and programming lessons available from the NAIF website, although we hope to use shorter versions of many of the tutorials for the class presentations.

This class is intended for persons who need to write their own programs that need some sort of "observation geometry" information provided using SPICE data. The programming lessons will be offered in Fortran 77, C, IDL and MATLAB.

This class will be open to all professionals working in space science, including students, members of government organizations and employees of commercial entities. There are no ITAR or licensing issues, and there is no registration fee. Foreign persons are certainly invited to participate. Good comprehension of spoken English is needed to benefit from the class.

All class attendees will be responsible for their own travel, hotel and living expenses: NAIF is unable to provide any such support.

Attendance will be limited to the first approximately 40 people who fill out and return the sign-up form. This form will be made available on the NAIF server very soon, once the class dates and location (a local hotel) have been confirmed.

Unfortunately there are currently no prospects for NAIF hosting public SPICE training classes elsewhere.
