PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT INTERCHANGE_FORMAT = ASCII PUBLICATION_DATE = 2017-07-01 NOTE = "FRAMES Kernel Information" END_OBJECT = TEXT END General information about SPICE FRAMES kernels ============================================== In the SPICE system, the FRAMES kernel (FK) contains information required to define reference frames used in a particular mission. This information includes sources of orientation and origin location for these frames and inter-connections between these frames and other frames supported within the SPICE system. The frame definitions information contained in the FK files can be used by a collection of subroutines that are part of the SPICELIB library, the major component of the SPICE Toolkit. These subroutines can be integrated into user application programs. Information about obtaining the SPICE Toolkit is located in the ``software'' subdirectory of the main directory of this dataset. Refer to the Frames Required Reading (frames.req) document provided with the Toolkit or available from the NAIF Node of the PDS, to get more information on how to access FK data. Venus Climate Orbiter FRAMES Kernels Contained in This Directory ================================================================ The following Frames Kernel files are included in this data set, used in the Venus Climate Orbiter (VCO, also known as PLANET-C and AKATSUKI) mission (only the name portion of the file name is shown on the right; the extension of all file names is ``.tf''): rssd0002 Generic Frames Definition Kernel for ESA Planetary Missions. 0002 is the version number. This file is used in the Venus Climate Orbiter mission to calculate orbit number for the Venus Climate Orbiter spacecraft. vco_spacecraft_vVV FK file containing the definition of the Venus Climate Orbiter spacecraft body-fixed frame and frames for its engineering structures and science instruments, created by the PLANET-C Project Team, where VV is the version number. All FK files provided in this data set are in UNIX text format, with a line feed character (ASCII 10) at the end of the line. If this data set contains multiple FK files, the one with the latest version (VV) supersedes all previous versions. In most cases both FK files should be loaded into a user's application to process data for the science phase(s) of the mission. Kernel File Details =================== The most detailed description of the data in an FK file is provided in metadata included inside the descriptive text area of the file. This information can be viewed using any text editor.
