PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT INTERCHANGE_FORMAT = ASCII PUBLICATION_DATE = 2009-02-27 NOTE = "MRO I-Kernel Information" END_OBJECT = TEXT END General Information About SPICE I-Kernels ========================================= In the SPICE system, I-kernels contain field-of-view specifications, internal timing parameters, detector geometry specifications and other geometric parameters for the instrument. These parameters along with knowledge of the spacecraft pointing (C kernel) and instrument mounting alignment (Frames Kernel) allow the user to use SPICE APIs to calculate the view directions of the individual instrument pixels or detectors. The data contained in I-kernel files can be accessed and manipulated in conjunction with other data using the SPICE Toolkit APIs, calls to which can be integrated into user application programs. The information regarding how to obtain the SPICE system toolkit for a number of languages and computer platforms is located in the ``/software'' subdirectory of the main directory of this data set. Refer to the ``kernel.req'' document provided with the Toolkit to get more information on how to access I-kernel data. MRO I-kernels Provided in This Data Set ======================================= The following MRO I-Kernel files are provided in this data set (only name portion of the file name is shown; the extension of all IK file names is ``.ti''): mro_crism_vVV IK file(s) for Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM) providing FOV definition and other geometric parameters for the instrument mro_ctx_vVV IK file(s) for Context Camera (CTX) providing FOV definition and other geometric parameters for the instrument mro_hirise_vVV IK file(s) for High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HIRISE) providing FOV definition and other geometric parameters for the instrument. mro_marci_vVV IK file(s) for Mars Color Imager (MARCI) providing FOV definition and other geometric parameters for the instrument mro_mcs_vVV IK file(s) for Mars Climate Sounder providing FOV definition and other geometric parameters for the instrument mro_onc_vVV IK file(s) for Optical Navigation (Camera) Experiment (ONC) providing FOV definition and other geometric parameters for the instrument If this data set contains multiple IK files for a particular instrument, the one with the latest version (VV) supersedes all previous versions. For HIRISE a particular IK version must be used with a particular FK version to ensure consistency between the optical distortion data provided in the IK and camera frame alignment data provided in the FK. The IKs version 1.0 or earlier must be used with the MRO FK version 1.3 or earlier while the IKs version 1.1 or later must be used with the MRO FK version 1.4 or later. Kernel File Details =================== The most detailed description of the data in an IK file is provided in metadata included inside the description area of the file. This information can be viewed using any text editor program.
