The pointing of a platform or an instrument is often expressed in terms of a transformation matrix from some standard inertial reference frame to a instrument-fixed frame. In the past, the instrument was often a camera, and the transformation was thus dubbed the ``C-matrix''; hence the choice of C as the name for the pointing kernel. The data contained in C-kernel files can be accessed and manipulated by a collection of FORTRAN 77 subroutines which are part of the SPICELIB library or C functions which are part of the CSPICE library. These subroutines/functions can be integrated into user application programs. The SPICE system toolkit for a number of computer platforms or information regarding how it can be obtained is located in the ``/software'' subdirectory of the main directory of this data set. To use C-kernels, a Spacecraft Clock Kernel (SCLK) is required. Also, for C-Kernels containing orientation of a project-defined frames, a Frame Definitions File is required. Refer to the ``ck.req'' document provided with the toolkit or available from the NAIF Node of PDS if SPICE toolkit is not included with this data set to get more information on how to access C-kernel data. MRO C-kernels Contained in This Data Set ======================================== The following MRO C-kernels are provided in this data set (only name portion of the file name is shown; the extension of all file names is ``.bc''): MRO Spacecraft Orientation CK Files: mro_sc_PPP_YYMMDD_yymmdd[_V] CK files providing actual telemetry-based orientation of the MRO spacecraft bus for the ``YYMMDD'' to ``yymmdd'' period of the ``PPP'' phase of the mission (where ``PPP'' is ``cru'' for Cruise, ``ab'' for Aerobraking, ``psp'' for Primary and Extended Science, ``rel'' for Relay). The version number, [_V], is omitted for version 1. mro_sc_PPP_YYMMDD_yymmddp[V] CK files providing predicted orientation of the MRO spacecraft bus, modeled using the AtArPS tool for the ``YYMMDD'' to ``yymmdd'' period of the ``PPP'' phase of the mission (where ``PPP'' is ``psp'' for Primary and Extended Science, ``rel'' for Relay). ``p'' following the end date indicates that the file contains predicted data. The version number, [V], is omitted for version 1. MRO Solar Arrays (SAs) Orientation CK Files: mro_sa_PPP_YYMMDD_yymmdd[_V] CK files providing actual telemetry-based orientation of the SAs for the ``YYMMDD'' to ``yymmdd'' period of the ``PPP'' phase of the mission (where ``PPP'' is ``cru'' for Cruise, ``ab'' for Aerobraking, ``psp'' for Primary and Extended Science, ``rel'' for Relay). The version number, [_V], is omitted for version 1. mro_sa_PPP_YYMMDD_yymmddp[V] CK files providing predicted orientation of the SAs, modeled using the AtArPS tool for the ``YYMMDD'' to ``yymmdd'' period of the ``PPP'' phase of the mission (where ``PPP'' is ``psp'' for Primary and Extended Science, ``rel'' for Relay). ``p'' following the end date indicates that the file contains predicted data. The version number, [V], is omitted for version 1. MRO High Gain Antenna (HGA) Orientation CK Files: mro_hga_PPP_YYMMDD_yymmdd[_V] CK files providing actual telemetry-based orientation of the HGA for the ``YYMMDD'' to ``yymmdd'' period of the ``PPP'' phase of the mission (where ``PPP'' is ``cru'' for Cruise, ``ab'' for Aerobraking, ``psp'' for Primary and Extended Science, ``rel'' for Relay). The version number, [_V], is omitted for version 1. mro_hga_PPP_YYMMDD_yymmddp[V] CK files providing predicted orientation of the HGA, modeled using the AtArPS tool for the ``YYMMDD'' to ``yymmdd'' period of the ``PPP'' phase of the mission (where ``PPP'' is ``psp'' for Primary and Extended Science, ``rel'' for Relay). ``p'' following the end date indicates that the file contains predicted data. The version number, [V], is omitted for version 1. MRO Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM) Orientation CK Files: mro_crm_PPP_YYMMDD_yymmdd[_V] CK files providing actual telemetry-based orientation of the CRISM instrument for the ``YYMMDD'' to ``yymmdd'' period of the ``PPP'' phase of the mission (where ``PPP'' is ``cru'' for Cruise, ``psp'' for Primary and Extended Science, ``rel'' for Relay). The version number, [_V], is omitted for version 1. Note that following CRISM CK files have one or more incorrect dates in the file name: mro_crm_psp_110223_101128.bc MRO Mars Climate Sounder (MCS) Orientation CK Files: mro_mcs_PPP_YYMMDD_yymmdd[_V] CK files providing actual telemetry-based orientation of the MCS instrument for the ``YYMMDD'' to ``yymmdd'' period of the ``PPP'' phase of the mission (where ``PPP'' is ``cru'' for Cruise, ``psp'' for Primary and Extended Science, ``rel'' for Relay). The version number, [_V], is omitted for version 1. If more than one CK of a particular kind is present for a given time interval, the file with the latest version, ``V'', supersedes all earlier versions. Kernel File Details =================== The most detailed description of the data in a binary CK file is provided in metadata included inside the comment area of the file. This information can be viewed using utility programs COMMNT and SPACIT included into the NAIF Toolkit.
