PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT INTERCHANGE_FORMAT = ASCII PUBLICATION_DATE = 2007-02-20 NOTE = "MGS FRAMES Kernel Information" END_OBJECT = TEXT END General information about SPICE FRAMES kernels ============================================== In the SPICE system, FRAMES kernel contains a set of information required to define various frames used in a particular mission, sources of orientation and origin location information for these frames and inter-connections between these frames and other frames supported within the SPICE system. The frame definitions information contained in the file can be utilized by a collection of FORTRAN 77 subroutines that are part of the SPICELIB library or C functions that are part of the CSPICE library to provide correct interpretation for the SPICE data from SP- and C-kernels. The SPICE system toolkit for a number of computer platforms or information regarding how it can be obtained is located in the "/software" subdirectory of the main directory of this data set. Refer to the "frames.req" document provided with the toolkit or available from the NAIF Node of PDS if SPICE toolkit is not included with this data set to get more information about definition and usage of the frames within SPICE system. MGS FRAMES Kernels contained on this volume =========================================== The following Frames Kernel file is included on this volume (only name portion of the file name is shown on the right; the extension of all file names is ".tf"): mgs_vVV main MGS Frames kernels providing the complete set of frame definitions for the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) spacecraft, its structures, and science instruments. mgs_hga_vVV MGS High Gain Antenna Frames kernel files containing definitions for HGA dish and structure frames and for all (transmit and receive) Low Gain Antenna (LGA) frames; The main MGS frame kernels supersede the MGS HGA frames kernels; if multiple FK files pf the same kinds are present, the one with the latest version (VV) supersedes all previous versions. Kernel File Details =================== The most detailed description of the data in an FK file is provided in metadata included inside the description area of the file. This information can be viewed using any text editor program.
