PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT INTERCHANGE_FORMAT = ASCII PUBLICATION_DATE = 2009-06-29 NOTE = "LRO I-Kernel Information" END_OBJECT = TEXT END General Information About SPICE I-Kernels ========================================= In the SPICE system, I-kernels contain field-of-view specifications, internal timing parameters, detector geometry specifications and other geometric parameters for the instrument. These parameters along with knowledge of the spacecraft pointing (C kernel) and instrument mounting alignment (Frames Kernel) allow the user to use SPICE APIs to calculate the view directions of the individual instrument pixels or detectors. The data contained in I-kernel files can be accessed and manipulated in conjunction with other data using the SPICE Toolkit APIs, calls to which can be integrated into user application programs. The information regarding how to obtain the SPICE system toolkit for a number of languages and computer platforms is located in the ``/software'' subdirectory of the main directory of this data set. Refer to the ``kernel.req'' document provided with the Toolkit to get more information on how to access I-kernel data. LRO I-kernels Provided in This Data Set ======================================= LRO does not levy any requirements on the individuals Science Operation Centers (SOCs) or instrument teams to create a corresponding Instrument kernel, which would provide the instrument field-of-view(s) size, shape and orientation. However, if the instrument teams or science centers create these files and forward them to the LRO Mission Operations Center (MOC), the LRO MOC will include them as part of the LRO PDS archive. File Name Convention -------------------- The LRO Instrument IK Frames Kernel files included in the data set shall be named according to the following naming scheme: _. where File Designator = [8-11 characters] token identifying the file; is "lro_crater" for CRaTER instrument "lro_dlre" for DIVINER instrument "lro_lamp" for LAMP instrument "lro_lola" for LOLA instrument "lro_lend" for LEND instrument "lro_lroc" for LROC instrument Version = [3 characters] file version, vNN; where NN => a two-digit version number; the initial version is "00", next is "01" ... up to "99". File Extension = [2 characters] Standard file extension for a text IK file "ti". The following are examples of LRO instrument IK file names: - CRaTER IK File : lro_crater_v01.ti - DLRE IK File : lro_dlre_v01.ti - LAMP IK File : lro_lamp_v01.ti - LOLA IK File : lro_lola_v01.ti - LEND IK File : lro_lend_v01.ti - LROC IK File : lro_lroc_v01.ti - MINI-RF IK File: lro_minirf_v01.ti Kernel File Details =================== The most detailed description of the data in an IK file is provided in metadata included inside the description area of the file. This information can be viewed using any text editor program.
