PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT INTERCHANGE_FORMAT = ASCII PUBLICATION_DATE = 2019-01-30 NOTE = "DAWN PC-Kernel Information" END_OBJECT = TEXT END General information about SPICE PC-kernels ========================================== In the SPICE system, the PC-kernels contain planetary attitude and body shape information. The PCK kernel includes orientation and shape information pertaining to extended solar system bodies such as the Sun, the planets, the natural satellites of the planets, comets, and asteroids. The purpose of the PCK kernels and associated software is to provide SPICE users with a convenient mechanism for supplying planetary physical constants to application programs. SPICE's PCK software is able to read files conforming to the PCK format and return to a calling application program both the data contained in such files and a small number of commonly used numeric quantities derived from the kernel data. The information regarding how to obtain the SPICE system toolkit for a number of languages and computer platforms is located in the ``/software'' subdirectory of the main directory of this data set. Refer to the ``pck.req'' document provided with the toolkit to get more information on how to access PC-kernel data. Dawn PC-kernel contained on this volume ======================================= The following text PC-kernel files are included on this volume (only the name portion of the file name is shown on the right; the extension of all file names is ``.tpc''): Latest Versions: dawn_vesta_v06 DAWN project PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Vesta. Vesta rotation constants provided in this PCK are for the ``Claudia Double-Prime'' coordinate system used in science products included in the DAWN Vesta mission PDS archives. dawn_ceres_v06 DAWN project PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Ceres. This PCK incorporates shape and rotation constants from the ``Ceres Coordinate System Description'' document dated 28-JUN-2018 and archived in DAWN-A-FC2-5-CERESSHAPESPC-V1.0. Previous/Superseded Ceres PCK files: dawn_ceres_dlr170713_v1 PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Ceres. This PCK contains Ceres rotation constants determined by the DAWN FC Team, DLR, consistent with their 135-m spatial resolution Ceres shape plate model produced in 2017. This PCK is included in the data set only for the record. dawn_ceres_grv171219_v1 PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Ceres. This PCK contains Ceres rotation constants determined by the DAWN Gravity Team, JPL, consistent with their Ceres shape plate models produced in 2018. This PCK is included in the data set only for the record. dawn_ceres_v05 DAWN project PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Ceres. This PCK incorporates shape and rotation constants from the ``Ceres Coordinate System Description'' document dated 14-Oct-2015. dawn_ceres_v04 DAWN project PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Ceres. This PCK is obsolete and superseded by the latest Ceres PCK file included in the archive. It is included in the archive only because the project science teams used it to prepare the Ceres Approach, RC3, and Survey data sets delivered to PDS in October 2015. Previous/Superseded Vesta PCK files: dawn_vesta_v05 DAWN project PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Vesta. Vesta rotation constants provided in this PCK are for the ``Claudia Prime'' coordinate system used in science products included in the DAWN Vesta mission PDS archives submitted for peer-review in August 2012 but never officially archived. This PCK is obsolete and superseded by the ``dawn_vesta_v06.tpc'' PCK file. dawn_vesta_v04 DAWN project PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Vesta. Vesta rotation constants provided in this PCK are for the ``DAWN-Claudia'' coordinate system used by the project during operations at Vesta. This PCK is obsolete and superseded by the ``dawn_vesta_v06.tpc'' PCK file. dawn_ceres_v01 DAWN project PCK file containing orientation and size information for the asteroid Ceres. Ceres rotation constants provided in this PCK were used by the project during operations prior to arrival to Ceres. This PCK is obsolete and superseded by the latest Ceres PCK file included in the archive. Generic PCK files: pck00010 generic PCK file containing information for the Sun, all Solar planets and satellites, and selected comets and asteroids, based on the constants from the IAU 2009 report. In terms of Vesta and Ceres rotation and shape constants this PCK is obsolete and superseded by the latest Vesta and Ceres PCK files included in the archive. pck00008 generic PCK file containing information for the Sun, all Solar planets and satellites, and selected comets and asteroids, based on the constants from the IAU 2000 report. Vesta rotation constants provided in this PCK are for the ``IAU-2000'' coordinate system used by the project during operations prior to arrival to Vesta. The same Vesta rotation constants were also provided in the DAWN project PCK files ``dawn_vesta_v00.tpc'' and ``dawn_vesta_v01.tpc'' not included in this archive. In terms of Vesta and Ceres rotation and shape constants this PCK is obsolete and superseded by the latest Vesta and Ceres PCK files included in the archive. The PCK ``dawn_vesta_v06.tpc'' providing Vesta rotation constants for the ``Claudia Double-Prime'' coordinate system supersedes all other archived Vesta PCKs that were included in this data set only for the record. The PCK ``dawn_ceres_v06.tpc'' supersedes all other archived Ceres PCKs that were included in this data set only for the record.
