The means of an access to the EK data are provided via collection of the SPICE Toolkit APIs, calls to which can be integrated into user application programs, and SPICE system program INSPEKT, a utility program for browsing E-kernel contents. The information regarding how to obtain the SPICE system toolkit for a number of languages and computer platforms is located in the ``/software'' subdirectory of the main directory of this data set. To use E-kernels with INSPEKT program, a Leapseconds (LSK) is required. Refer to the ``ek.req'' and ``inspekt.ug'' documents provided with the toolkit to get more information on how to access E-kernel data. Clementine E-kernels Provided in This Data Set ============================================== The following Clementine E-kernels are provided in this data set: clem_moon_940127_940312.bdb clem_moon_940312_940330.bdb clem_moon_940330_940415.bdb clem_moon_940415_940507.bdb clem_sky_940201_940507.bdb These files contain parts of the Clementine image catalog in EK format, created by NAIF in 1994, after the end of the mission, to make the Clementine image attributes and derived geometry information available to the NAIF staff in the EK database format accessible using SPICE APIs and INSPEKT application. The four ``moon'' files contain records for subsets of the Moon images taken during the periods identified by the dates in the file names. The ``sky'' file contains records for the Clementine images of the sky. It is suggested that only the ``basic'' image attributes provided in this catalog -- image file name, time, camera ID, exposure, gain, compression, etc. -- but not the ``derived'' geometry values -- longitudes and latitudes, illumination angles, etc. -- are used in future applications. While the ``basic'' attributes are identical to those from the PDS image labels, the ``derived'' geometric parameters are different and possibly inaccurate because they were computed using older kernels. Appendix 1 of this document provides a small example illustrating how the INSPEKT program can be used to query the Clementine image catalog EK files to find a set of images within a time range and to obtain the attributes of a particular image. Kernel File Details =================== The most detailed description of the data in a binary EK file is provided in metadata included inside the comment area of the file. This information can be viewed using utility programs COMMNT and SPACIT included into the NAIF Toolkit.
