     This ``aareadme.txt'' file describes contents of the kernels/fk
     directory of the MSL SPICE data server. It was last modified on June

Brief summary
--------------------------------------------------------
 
     This directory contains the SPICE Frames Kernel files for the MSL
     mission. All files are in IEEE text format and must be copied using
     ftp ASCII transfer to any non-UNIX workstation. The following files
     are present in this directory. (Only file names are shown; the file
     name extensions of the text Frames Kernel files are always ".tf"):
 
           msl_vNN                  MSL ``master'' frames kernel files
                                    containing definitions for MSL surface,
                                    rover, rover structures and science
                                    instrument frames;
 
           msl                      default-name copy of the latest
                                    msl_vNN.tf file. The companion file
                                    msl.tf.history shows the msl.tf update
                                    history.
 
           msl_tp_[id]_iau2000_vV   MSL topocentric frame definition FK
                                    files for individual landing sites
                                    indicated by [id]. The ``gc120806'' are
                                    FKs for the the pre-landing Gusev
                                    Crater target landing sites. The
                                    ``ops120808'' is the FK for the actual
                                    landing site. The MSL_TOPO frame
                                    definition from the ``ops120808'' FK is
                                    incorporated into the ``master'' MSL FK
                                    starting with the version 05.
 
     If multiple versions of a Frames Kernel file are provided, always use
     the latest version (unless earlier version is needed for some special
     reasons.)
