2001 Mars Odyssey Mapping SPK file, M01 NAV Solution =========================================================================== Created by Boris Semenov, NAIF/JPL, February 18, 2004 Objects in the Ephemeris -------------------------------------------------------- This file contains ephemeris data for 2001 Mars Odyssey (M01) spacecraft. NAIF ID code for M01 is -53. Approximate Time Coverage -------------------------------------------------------- This file covers the following part of the Mapping phase of the M01 mission: COVERAGE BEGIN TIME (TDB): 2003 OCT 01 00:00:00.000 COVERAGE END TIME (TDB): 2004 JAN 01 01:00:00.000 Status -------------------------------------------------------- This file was created by merging regular reconstructed OD solution SPK files produced by M01 NAV during Mapping phase of the mission. The file was created by NAIF for archiving with the Planetary Data System (PDS). Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------- The original SPK files used to create this file contained only reconstructed trajectory. They were officially delivered to the M01 project data base (FIS/DOM) by M01 NAV. The list of the original files data from which has been merged into this file is provided in the Appendix 1 of these comments. Segment Boundary Discontinuities -------------------------------------------------------- This SPK file contains a large number of SPK segments that came from original individual SPK files. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the Appendix 2 of these comments. Usage -------------------------------------------------------- This file should be used together with DE405 planetary ephemeris since the original SPK files contained subsets of these particular ephemeris in them. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the table included in this Appendix. The top portion of the table contains the name of this SPK file. All descriptive lines in the top portion of the file start with the ``#'' character to allow direct plotting of the data in the freeware ``gnuplot'' application. The table consists of 5 columns. The first column is the orbit number within which a segment boundary with discontinuity occurs. The next column contains the UTC time of that segment boundary. The last three columns (3..5) contain view coordinate frame components -- ``down track'' (this direction is parallel to the velocity vector), ``normal to plane'' (this direction is computed as cross product of position vector by velocity vector) and ``in plane'' (this direction is computed as a cross product of ``down track'' by ``normal to plane'') -- of the difference between the state vectors computed at that UTC time defining segment boundary at which a discontinuity exists. The pairs of segments and discontinuity times are determined using an algorithm that emulates the standard SPK loading priority -- ``last loaded segment takes precedence''. Therefore, the discontinuities summarized in the file are those which a user reading file would actually see. The difference components in the view coordinate frame were computed for each discontinuity using the following algorithm: -- A single state was computed from each pair of segment the J2000 frame at the time of discontinuity. -- For this pair of states, a position difference vector was computed by subtracting the state computed from the segment with higher priority from the state computed from segment with lower priority. Then, a frame transformation matrix rotating these difference vectors from J2000 to the view coordinate frame defined by the state obtained from the higher priority segment was computed, and the position difference vector was rotated to the view frame coordinates using this matrix. The segment boundary discontinuities for this file are: # # Summary of discontinuities at segment boundaries for # SPK file m01_map8.bsp: # #ORBNUM BOUNDARY TIME (UTC) DOWNTRK INPLANE NORMAL #------- ----------------------- ------- ------- ------- 7970 2003-10-01T14:58:55.817 0.024 0.000 0.009 7990 2003-10-03T06:58:55.817 -0.010 -0.000 0.003 8013 2003-10-05T03:58:55.817 0.012 0.000 0.004 8035 2003-10-06T23:58:55.817 0.056 -0.000 -0.021 8061 2003-10-09T02:31:55.817 -0.080 -0.001 -0.039 8084 2003-10-11T00:52:55.817 0.016 -0.000 -0.007 8102 2003-10-12T11:58:55.817 -0.027 -0.000 -0.005 8123 2003-10-14T05:38:55.817 0.008 -0.000 -0.001 8146 2003-10-16T02:58:55.817 0.035 0.000 0.003 8169 2003-10-18T01:43:55.817 -0.012 -0.000 -0.005 8189 2003-10-19T17:08:55.817 0.016 0.000 0.004 8207 2003-10-21T04:43:55.817 0.009 -0.000 0.003 8230 2003-10-23T01:08:55.817 -0.026 0.000 0.008 8254 2003-10-24T23:58:55.817 0.013 -0.000 0.007 8280 2003-10-27T05:03:55.817 -0.009 -0.000 -0.004 8281 2003-10-27T05:08:55.817 0.021 0.000 0.011 8310 2003-10-29T15:13:55.817 -27.827 1.193 0.114 8328 2003-10-31T02:28:55.817 0.160 0.001 0.032 8351 2003-11-01T23:28:55.817 0.001 -0.000 0.001 8372 2003-11-03T17:28:55.817 -0.011 -0.000 -0.000 8389 2003-11-05T02:28:55.817 0.004 0.001 0.002 8410 2003-11-06T20:38:55.817 0.026 -0.000 -0.005 8430 2003-11-08T13:19:55.817 -0.014 -0.000 -0.007 8452 2003-11-10T06:53:55.817 0.006 0.000 0.004 8474 2003-11-12T02:18:55.817 -0.007 -0.000 -0.004 8493 2003-11-13T17:41:55.817 -0.008 -0.000 -0.003 8517 2003-11-15T15:13:55.817 0.024 0.000 0.013 8536 2003-11-17T05:39:55.817 -0.012 0.000 0.006 8560 2003-11-19T04:48:55.817 0.005 -0.000 -0.000 8585 2003-11-21T05:38:55.817 0.000 -0.000 0.000 8604 2003-11-22T19:58:55.817 -0.010 -0.000 0.005 8620 2003-11-24T04:33:55.817 0.003 -0.000 0.001 8644 2003-11-26T02:23:55.817 -0.009 -0.000 -0.006 8661 2003-11-27T11:48:55.817 0.007 0.000 0.005 8681 2003-11-29T05:04:55.816 0.019 0.000 0.008 8705 2003-12-01T04:32:55.816 0.003 0.000 0.001 8728 2003-12-03T01:58:55.816 -0.004 -0.000 -0.002 8753 2003-12-05T03:23:55.816 -0.005 0.000 -0.003 8777 2003-12-07T01:23:55.816 -0.015 0.000 -0.005 8792 2003-12-08T06:43:55.816 -0.022 -0.000 -0.014 8814 2003-12-10T03:58:55.816 0.002 -0.000 0.001 8838 2003-12-12T01:48:55.816 0.002 0.000 0.001 8862 2003-12-14T02:43:55.816 0.002 -0.000 0.001 8886 2003-12-16T02:13:55.816 0.011 0.000 0.006 8911 2003-12-18T01:56:55.816 -0.009 -0.000 -0.006 8935 2003-12-20T01:50:55.816 -0.004 0.000 0.001 8960 2003-12-22T03:28:55.816 -0.020 0.000 0.011 8984 2003-12-24T01:58:55.816 0.012 0.000 0.007 9008 2003-12-26T01:28:55.816 -0.008 -0.000 -0.005 9031 2003-12-27T22:58:55.816 0.015 0.000 0.010 9054 2003-12-29T20:28:55.816 0.007 0.000 0.004 9071 2003-12-31T05:58:55.816 0.003 -0.000 0.002
