2001 Mars Odyssey Mapping SPK file, M01 NAV Solution =========================================================================== Created by Boris Semenov, NAIF/JPL, January 21, 2003 Objects in the Ephemeris -------------------------------------------------------- This file contains ephemeris data for 2001 Mars Odyssey (M01) spacecraft. NAIF ID code for M01 is -53. Approximate Time Coverage -------------------------------------------------------- This file covers the following part of the Mapping phase of the M01 mission: COVERAGE BEGIN TIME (TDB): 2002 OCT 01 00:00:00.000 COVERAGE END TIME (TDB): 2003 JAN 01 01:00:00.000 Status -------------------------------------------------------- This file was created by merging regular reconstructed OD solution SPK files produced by M01 NAV during Mapping phase of the mission. The file was created by NAIF for archiving with the Planetary Data System (PDS). Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------- The original SPK files used to create this file contained only reconstructed trajectory. They were officially delivered to the M01 project data base (FIS/DOM) by M01 NAV. The list of the original files data from which has been merged into this file is provided in the Appendix 1 of these comments. Segment Boundary Discontinuities -------------------------------------------------------- This SPK file contains a large number of SPK segments that came from original individual SPK files. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the Appendix 2 of these comments. Usage -------------------------------------------------------- This file should be used together with DE405 planetary ephemeris since the original SPK files contained subsets of these particular ephemeris in them. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the table included in this Appendix. The top portion of the table contains the name of this SPK file. All descriptive lines in the top portion of the file start with the ``#'' character to allow direct plotting of the data in the freeware ``gnuplot'' application. The table consists of 5 columns. The first column is the orbit number within which a segment boundary with discontinuity occurs. The next column contains the UTC time of that segment boundary. The last three columns (3..5) contain view coordinate frame components -- ``down track'' (this direction is parallel to the velocity vector), ``normal to plane'' (this direction is computed as cross product of position vector by velocity vector) and ``in plane'' (this direction is computed as a cross product of ``down track'' by ``normal to plane'') -- of the difference between the state vectors computed at that UTC time defining segment boundary at which a discontinuity exists. The pairs of segments and discontinuity times are determined using an algorithm that emulates the standard SPK loading priority -- ``last loaded segment takes precedence''. Therefore, the discontinuities summarized in the file are those which a user reading file would actually see. The difference components in the view coordinate frame were computed for each discontinuity using the following algorithm: -- A single state was computed from each pair of segment the J2000 frame at the time of discontinuity. -- For this pair of states, a position difference vector was computed by subtracting the state computed from the segment with higher priority from the state computed from segment with lower priority. Then, a frame transformation matrix rotating these difference vectors from J2000 to the view coordinate frame defined by the state obtained from the higher priority segment was computed, and the position difference vector was rotated to the view frame coordinates using this matrix. The segment boundary discontinuities for this file are: # # Summary of discontinuities at segment boundaries for # SPK file m01_map4.bsp: # #ORBNUM BOUNDARY TIME (UTC) DOWNTRK INPLANE NORMAL #------- ----------------------- ------- ------- ------- 3542 2002-10-02T02:58:55.817 -0.010 0.000 0.007 3574 2002-10-04T19:58:55.817 -0.009 -0.000 0.002 3596 2002-10-06T14:33:55.817 -0.022 -0.000 -0.013 3617 2002-10-08T08:38:55.817 0.006 -0.000 0.003 3639 2002-10-10T02:58:55.817 0.003 0.000 -0.002 3659 2002-10-11T19:08:55.817 0.007 -0.000 0.005 3681 2002-10-13T13:33:55.817 -0.011 -0.000 0.008 3702 2002-10-15T08:23:55.817 0.003 -0.000 0.003 3723 2002-10-17T01:33:55.817 -0.002 -0.000 -0.002 3745 2002-10-18T20:48:55.817 -0.004 -0.000 -0.001 3770 2002-10-20T21:23:55.817 0.010 -0.000 -0.004 3789 2002-10-22T10:58:55.817 -0.011 -0.000 0.008 3810 2002-10-24T05:53:55.817 0.009 -0.000 0.005 3833 2002-10-26T02:48:55.817 0.014 0.000 0.010 3854 2002-10-27T20:58:55.817 -0.007 -0.000 -0.001 3872 2002-10-29T08:18:55.817 0.011 -0.000 0.008 3894 2002-10-31T03:18:55.817 -0.012 -0.000 -0.008 3916 2002-11-01T22:43:55.817 -0.012 -0.000 -0.007 3941 2002-11-04T00:13:55.817 -0.002 -0.000 -0.001 3954 2002-11-05T01:03:55.817 0.044 -0.023 -0.100 3965 2002-11-05T23:28:55.817 0.079 -0.001 0.035 3979 2002-11-07T03:13:55.817 -0.003 -0.000 -0.002 3991 2002-11-08T02:58:55.817 0.003 0.002 -0.001 4001 2002-11-08T23:03:55.817 -0.002 0.000 -0.003 4023 2002-11-10T18:13:55.817 -0.017 -0.000 -0.014 4042 2002-11-12T07:48:55.817 0.010 -0.000 0.009 4066 2002-11-14T06:13:55.817 -0.002 -0.000 0.001 4081 2002-11-15T13:08:55.817 -0.004 0.000 -0.003 4105 2002-11-17T12:13:55.817 0.002 0.000 0.001 4127 2002-11-19T07:38:55.817 0.003 -0.000 0.002 4145 2002-11-20T19:13:55.817 0.009 -0.000 0.007 4166 2002-11-22T12:43:55.817 0.001 0.000 0.001 4188 2002-11-24T08:33:55.817 -0.003 0.000 -0.002 4212 2002-11-26T07:53:55.817 0.001 0.000 0.001 4230 2002-11-27T19:28:55.816 -0.002 0.000 -0.002 4253 2002-11-29T17:13:55.816 -0.002 0.000 -0.000 4275 2002-12-01T12:08:55.816 0.001 -0.000 0.001 4298 2002-12-03T09:58:55.816 0.001 -0.000 0.000 4322 2002-12-05T09:28:55.816 -0.000 -0.000 0.000 4346 2002-12-07T08:43:55.816 -0.000 0.000 -0.000 4364 2002-12-08T19:53:55.816 0.006 -0.000 0.005 4387 2002-12-10T17:18:55.816 -0.005 -0.000 -0.004 4400 2002-12-11T18:58:55.816 0.005 -0.000 0.004 4420 2002-12-13T10:28:55.816 0.000 -0.000 0.000 4442 2002-12-15T06:08:55.816 0.002 0.000 0.002 4466 2002-12-17T05:38:55.816 0.003 0.000 0.003 4491 2002-12-19T05:58:55.816 0.001 0.000 -0.002 4517 2002-12-21T08:58:55.816 0.002 0.000 -0.001 4540 2002-12-23T07:58:55.816 0.003 -0.000 0.002 4563 2002-12-25T05:28:55.816 -0.001 -0.000 -0.001 4584 2002-12-26T22:28:55.816 0.001 -0.000 0.001 4606 2002-12-28T17:58:55.816 0.001 0.000 0.001
