2001 Mars Odyssey Extended SPK file, M01 NAV Solution =========================================================================== Created by Boris Semenov, NAIF/JPL, February 21, 2007 Objects in the Ephemeris -------------------------------------------------------- This file contains ephemeris data for 2001 Mars Odyssey (M01) spacecraft. NAIF ID code for M01 is -53. Approximate Time Coverage -------------------------------------------------------- This file covers the following part of the Extended phase of the M01 mission: COVERAGE BEGIN TIME (TDB): 2006 OCT 01 00:00:00.000 COVERAGE END TIME (TDB): 2007 JAN 01 01:00:00.000 Status -------------------------------------------------------- This file was created by merging regular reconstructed OD solution SPK files produced by M01 NAV during Extended phase of the mission. The file was created by NAIF for archiving with the Planetary Data System (PDS). Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------- The original SPK files used to create this file contained only reconstructed trajectory. They were officially delivered to the M01 project data base (FIS/DOM) by M01 NAV. The list of the original files data from which has been merged into this file is provided in the Appendix 1 of these comments. Segment Boundary Discontinuities -------------------------------------------------------- This SPK file contains a large number of SPK segments that came from original individual SPK files. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the Appendix 2 of these comments. Usage -------------------------------------------------------- This file should be used together with DE405 planetary ephemeris since the original SPK files contained subsets of these particular ephemeris in them. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the table included in this Appendix. The top portion of the table contains the name of this SPK file. All descriptive lines in the top portion of the file start with the ``#'' character to allow direct plotting of the data in the freeware ``gnuplot'' application. The table consists of 5 columns. The first column is the orbit number within which a segment boundary with discontinuity occurs. The next column contains the UTC time of that segment boundary. The last three columns (3..5) contain view coordinate frame components -- ``down track'' (this direction is parallel to the velocity vector), ``normal to plane'' (this direction is computed as cross product of position vector by velocity vector) and ``in plane'' (this direction is computed as a cross product of ``down track'' by ``normal to plane'') -- of the difference between the state vectors computed at that UTC time defining segment boundary at which a discontinuity exists. The pairs of segments and discontinuity times are determined using an algorithm that emulates the standard SPK loading priority -- ``last loaded segment takes precedence''. Therefore, the discontinuities summarized in the file are those which a user reading file would actually see. The difference components in the view coordinate frame were computed for each discontinuity using the following algorithm: -- A single state was computed from each pair of segment the J2000 frame at the time of discontinuity. -- For this pair of states, a position difference vector was computed by subtracting the state computed from the segment with higher priority from the state computed from segment with lower priority. Then, a frame transformation matrix rotating these difference vectors from J2000 to the view coordinate frame defined by the state obtained from the higher priority segment was computed, and the position difference vector was rotated to the view frame coordinates using this matrix. The segment boundary discontinuities for this file are: # # Summary of discontinuities at segment boundaries for # SPK file m01_ext9.bsp: # #ORBNUM BOUNDARY TIME (UTC) DOWNTRK INPLANE NORMAL #------- ----------------------- ------- ------- ------- 21285 2006-10-01T22:28:54.817 0.035 0.000 -0.008 21309 2006-10-03T21:48:54.817 -0.084 -0.001 0.008 21331 2006-10-05T15:53:54.817 -0.024 -0.000 0.008 21354 2006-10-07T14:01:54.817 0.020 -0.000 0.007 21375 2006-10-09T08:03:54.817 0.013 0.000 0.001 21401 2006-10-11T10:33:54.817 -0.013 -0.000 -0.000 21424 2006-10-13T08:08:54.817 -0.070 0.000 -0.011 21444 2006-10-14T23:06:54.817 -0.138 -0.001 0.050 21464 2006-10-16T15:12:54.817 0.149 -0.001 0.025 21483 2006-10-18T05:33:54.817 0.383 0.001 0.018 21519 2006-10-21T03:38:54.817 0.239 0.003 -0.030 21591 2006-10-27T03:23:54.817 0.036 -0.000 -0.012 21614 2006-10-29T00:13:54.817 -0.006 -0.000 -0.001 21636 2006-10-30T20:18:54.817 0.180 0.002 -0.052 21655 2006-11-01T08:03:54.817 -0.232 -0.002 0.076 21677 2006-11-03T04:28:54.817 -0.021 0.000 -0.007 21698 2006-11-04T21:48:54.817 -0.133 0.001 -0.034 21718 2006-11-06T14:08:54.817 0.124 -0.001 -0.013 21741 2006-11-08T10:58:54.817 -0.053 0.001 -0.016 21767 2006-11-10T14:03:54.817 -0.067 0.001 -0.011 21789 2006-11-12T09:28:54.817 0.017 -0.000 0.002 21810 2006-11-14T02:26:54.817 -0.021 -0.000 0.006 21843 2006-11-16T20:11:54.817 -0.014 0.000 -0.001 21863 2006-11-18T11:43:54.817 -0.018 0.000 -0.002 21879 2006-11-19T19:26:54.817 0.023 -0.000 0.004 21904 2006-11-21T20:08:54.817 -0.002 -0.000 0.001 21928 2006-11-23T20:53:54.817 -0.013 -0.000 -0.002 21953 2006-11-25T22:20:54.817 0.018 0.000 0.002 21977 2006-11-27T20:30:54.816 -0.016 -0.000 0.004 21998 2006-11-29T15:18:54.816 -0.019 -0.000 -0.002 22024 2006-12-01T17:58:54.816 -0.051 0.000 -0.006 22047 2006-12-03T15:01:54.816 0.014 -0.000 -0.003 22061 2006-12-04T19:17:54.816 -0.008 0.000 -0.002 22083 2006-12-06T13:50:54.816 0.132 0.001 -0.033 22096 2006-12-07T15:28:54.816 -0.241 -0.000 0.054 22109 2006-12-08T18:28:54.816 -0.002 0.000 -0.001 22127 2006-12-10T04:48:54.816 -0.011 0.001 0.003 22148 2006-12-11T22:18:54.816 0.000 0.000 0.000 22171 2006-12-13T20:04:54.816 0.014 -0.000 -0.004 22194 2006-12-15T18:02:54.816 -0.022 -0.000 -0.003 22215 2006-12-17T12:18:54.816 0.016 -0.000 0.001 22239 2006-12-19T11:38:54.816 0.001 -0.001 0.000 22255 2006-12-20T18:53:54.816 0.003 -0.000 0.001 22280 2006-12-22T19:23:54.816 0.020 0.000 -0.006 22304 2006-12-24T19:51:54.816 0.007 -0.000 0.002 22320 2006-12-26T02:02:54.816 -0.013 -0.000 0.001 22341 2006-12-27T19:28:54.816 -0.001 -0.000 0.000 22364 2006-12-29T18:43:54.816 0.021 -0.000 0.003 22387 2006-12-31T14:48:54.816 0.014 0.000 -0.004
