2001 Mars Odyssey Extended SPK file, M01 NAV Solution =========================================================================== Created by Boris Semenov, NAIF/JPL, March 17, 2005 Objects in the Ephemeris -------------------------------------------------------- This file contains ephemeris data for 2001 Mars Odyssey (M01) spacecraft. NAIF ID code for M01 is -53. Approximate Time Coverage -------------------------------------------------------- This file covers the following part of the Extended phase of the M01 mission: COVERAGE BEGIN TIME (TDB): 2005 OCT 01 00:00:00.000 COVERAGE END TIME (TDB): 2006 JAN 01 01:00:00.000 Status -------------------------------------------------------- This file was created by merging regular reconstructed OD solution SPK files produced by M01 NAV during Extended phase of the mission. The file was created by NAIF for archiving with the Planetary Data System (PDS). Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------- The original SPK files used to create this file contained only reconstructed trajectory. They were officially delivered to the M01 project data base (FIS/DOM) by M01 NAV. The list of the original files data from which has been merged into this file is provided in the Appendix 1 of these comments. Segment Boundary Discontinuities -------------------------------------------------------- This SPK file contains a large number of SPK segments that came from original individual SPK files. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the Appendix 2 of these comments. Usage -------------------------------------------------------- This file should be used together with DE405 planetary ephemeris since the original SPK files contained subsets of these particular ephemeris in them. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the table included in this Appendix. The top portion of the table contains the name of this SPK file. All descriptive lines in the top portion of the file start with the ``#'' character to allow direct plotting of the data in the freeware ``gnuplot'' application. The table consists of 5 columns. The first column is the orbit number within which a segment boundary with discontinuity occurs. The next column contains the UTC time of that segment boundary. The last three columns (3..5) contain view coordinate frame components -- ``down track'' (this direction is parallel to the velocity vector), ``normal to plane'' (this direction is computed as cross product of position vector by velocity vector) and ``in plane'' (this direction is computed as a cross product of ``down track'' by ``normal to plane'') -- of the difference between the state vectors computed at that UTC time defining segment boundary at which a discontinuity exists. The pairs of segments and discontinuity times are determined using an algorithm that emulates the standard SPK loading priority -- ``last loaded segment takes precedence''. Therefore, the discontinuities summarized in the file are those which a user reading file would actually see. The difference components in the view coordinate frame were computed for each discontinuity using the following algorithm: -- A single state was computed from each pair of segment the J2000 frame at the time of discontinuity. -- For this pair of states, a position difference vector was computed by subtracting the state computed from the segment with higher priority from the state computed from segment with lower priority. Then, a frame transformation matrix rotating these difference vectors from J2000 to the view coordinate frame defined by the state obtained from the higher priority segment was computed, and the position difference vector was rotated to the view frame coordinates using this matrix. The segment boundary discontinuities for this file are: # # Summary of discontinuities at segment boundaries for # SPK file m01_ext5.bsp: # #ORBNUM BOUNDARY TIME (UTC) DOWNTRK INPLANE NORMAL #------- ----------------------- ------- ------- ------- 16863 2005-10-02T19:03:55.817 0.003 0.000 -0.001 16884 2005-10-04T13:48:55.817 -0.002 0.000 -0.003 16907 2005-10-06T11:15:55.817 -0.016 -0.000 -0.019 16929 2005-10-08T06:42:55.817 -0.002 -0.000 -0.003 16951 2005-10-10T02:08:55.817 0.005 -0.000 0.005 16974 2005-10-11T23:38:55.817 -0.004 -0.000 -0.004 16995 2005-10-13T17:08:55.817 0.003 -0.000 0.003 17017 2005-10-15T12:38:55.817 0.003 0.000 0.003 17040 2005-10-17T10:03:55.817 0.003 0.000 0.002 17063 2005-10-19T07:31:55.817 0.004 0.000 0.004 17084 2005-10-21T01:01:55.817 0.000 -0.000 0.000 17104 2005-10-22T16:28:55.817 -0.010 0.000 -0.006 17127 2005-10-24T13:58:55.817 -0.001 0.000 -0.000 17151 2005-10-26T13:33:55.817 -0.005 -0.000 -0.004 17169 2005-10-28T00:58:55.817 -0.003 0.000 -0.002 17189 2005-10-29T16:28:55.817 -0.003 0.000 -0.001 17209 2005-10-31T07:58:55.817 -0.001 0.000 -0.000 17231 2005-11-02T03:27:55.817 0.010 0.000 0.005 17253 2005-11-03T22:57:55.817 -0.011 -0.000 -0.006 17275 2005-11-05T18:20:07.817 -0.009 0.000 -0.002 17298 2005-11-07T15:35:07.817 -0.009 0.000 0.001 17319 2005-11-09T09:23:55.817 0.001 -0.000 0.000 17341 2005-11-11T03:38:55.817 0.010 -0.000 0.000 17363 2005-11-13T00:20:45.817 0.019 0.000 0.007 17384 2005-11-14T17:44:35.817 0.016 0.000 0.003 17405 2005-11-16T11:18:55.817 0.001 0.000 0.000 17427 2005-11-18T05:36:55.817 0.014 -0.000 0.001 17448 2005-11-19T23:33:55.817 0.001 0.000 -0.001 17471 2005-11-21T21:28:55.817 -0.005 0.000 0.001 17492 2005-11-23T14:28:55.817 -0.004 0.000 0.001 17507 2005-11-24T20:28:55.817 0.010 -0.000 -0.004 17523 2005-11-26T04:23:55.817 0.002 0.000 0.000 17538 2005-11-27T09:43:55.817 0.015 -0.000 -0.006 17562 2005-11-29T09:35:55.816 -0.004 -0.000 -0.001 17583 2005-12-01T01:49:55.816 -0.014 0.000 -0.003 17599 2005-12-02T09:28:55.816 0.020 0.000 0.004 17621 2005-12-04T06:40:55.816 -0.014 0.000 -0.006 17641 2005-12-05T21:51:55.816 0.006 0.000 0.002 17660 2005-12-07T11:08:55.816 0.008 -0.000 -0.001 17682 2005-12-09T05:18:55.816 0.003 0.000 0.001 17702 2005-12-10T22:23:55.816 -0.011 0.000 -0.002 17724 2005-12-12T17:58:55.816 0.008 0.000 0.003 17748 2005-12-14T15:58:55.816 -0.013 -0.000 -0.003 17769 2005-12-16T10:28:55.816 0.002 -0.000 -0.001 17792 2005-12-18T07:28:55.816 -0.012 0.000 0.005 17809 2005-12-19T16:33:55.816 0.012 -0.000 0.002 17829 2005-12-21T08:18:55.816 0.001 -0.000 -0.000 17847 2005-12-22T20:48:55.816 0.002 0.000 0.000 17869 2005-12-24T14:53:55.816 -0.017 -0.000 -0.007 17888 2005-12-26T04:43:55.816 0.010 -0.000 0.002 17911 2005-12-28T02:48:55.816 -0.006 -0.000 0.003 17931 2005-12-29T18:18:55.816 0.003 -0.000 -0.001 17949 2005-12-31T06:18:55.816 0.016 -0.000 -0.002
