2001 Mars Odyssey Extended SPK file, M01 NAV Solution =========================================================================== Created by Boris Semenov, NAIF/JPL, October 7, 2005 Objects in the Ephemeris -------------------------------------------------------- This file contains ephemeris data for 2001 Mars Odyssey (M01) spacecraft. NAIF ID code for M01 is -53. Approximate Time Coverage -------------------------------------------------------- This file covers the following part of the Extended phase of the M01 mission: COVERAGE BEGIN TIME (TDB): 2005 APR 01 00:00:00.000 COVERAGE END TIME (TDB): 2005 JUL 01 01:00:00.000 Status -------------------------------------------------------- This file was created by merging regular reconstructed OD solution SPK files produced by M01 NAV during Extended phase of the mission. The file was created by NAIF for archiving with the Planetary Data System (PDS). Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------- The original SPK files used to create this file contained only reconstructed trajectory. They were officially delivered to the M01 project data base (FIS/DOM) by M01 NAV. The list of the original files data from which has been merged into this file is provided in the Appendix 1 of these comments. Segment Boundary Discontinuities -------------------------------------------------------- This SPK file contains a large number of SPK segments that came from original individual SPK files. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the Appendix 2 of these comments. Usage -------------------------------------------------------- This file should be used together with DE405 planetary ephemeris since the original SPK files contained subsets of these particular ephemeris in them. Although, each segment provides continuous trajectory within the interval that it covers, in general a position and velocity discontinuity exists at the boundary of the segment and the segments whose coverage immediately precede and follow it. The times and magnitudes of these discontinuities are provided in the table included in this Appendix. The top portion of the table contains the name of this SPK file. All descriptive lines in the top portion of the file start with the ``#'' character to allow direct plotting of the data in the freeware ``gnuplot'' application. The table consists of 5 columns. The first column is the orbit number within which a segment boundary with discontinuity occurs. The next column contains the UTC time of that segment boundary. The last three columns (3..5) contain view coordinate frame components -- ``down track'' (this direction is parallel to the velocity vector), ``normal to plane'' (this direction is computed as cross product of position vector by velocity vector) and ``in plane'' (this direction is computed as a cross product of ``down track'' by ``normal to plane'') -- of the difference between the state vectors computed at that UTC time defining segment boundary at which a discontinuity exists. The pairs of segments and discontinuity times are determined using an algorithm that emulates the standard SPK loading priority -- ``last loaded segment takes precedence''. Therefore, the discontinuities summarized in the file are those which a user reading file would actually see. The difference components in the view coordinate frame were computed for each discontinuity using the following algorithm: -- A single state was computed from each pair of segment the J2000 frame at the time of discontinuity. -- For this pair of states, a position difference vector was computed by subtracting the state computed from the segment with higher priority from the state computed from segment with lower priority. Then, a frame transformation matrix rotating these difference vectors from J2000 to the view coordinate frame defined by the state obtained from the higher priority segment was computed, and the position difference vector was rotated to the view frame coordinates using this matrix. The segment boundary discontinuities for this file are: # # Summary of discontinuities at segment boundaries for # SPK file m01_ext3.bsp: # #ORBNUM BOUNDARY TIME (UTC) DOWNTRK INPLANE NORMAL #------- ----------------------- ------- ------- ------- 14639 2005-04-02T17:43:55.814 0.012 0.001 0.009 14662 2005-04-04T13:44:05.814 -0.011 -0.000 -0.006 14681 2005-04-06T04:43:55.814 -0.002 0.000 -0.002 14700 2005-04-07T18:18:55.814 0.001 -0.000 0.001 14721 2005-04-09T11:48:55.814 0.006 0.000 0.006 14742 2005-04-11T05:13:55.814 -0.005 -0.000 -0.004 14766 2005-04-13T04:28:55.814 0.003 -0.000 0.001 14789 2005-04-15T02:08:55.814 -0.011 -0.000 -0.010 14812 2005-04-16T23:33:55.814 0.002 -0.000 0.002 14834 2005-04-18T19:03:55.814 -0.001 0.000 -0.001 14856 2005-04-20T14:13:55.814 0.003 0.000 0.000 14879 2005-04-22T11:58:55.814 -0.002 0.000 -0.002 14901 2005-04-24T07:28:55.814 0.009 -0.000 0.010 14922 2005-04-26T00:58:55.814 0.000 -0.000 0.000 14947 2005-04-28T02:22:55.814 -0.002 -0.000 -0.002 14966 2005-04-29T15:53:55.814 -0.002 0.000 -0.002 14989 2005-05-01T13:23:55.814 0.008 -0.000 0.009 15010 2005-05-03T06:53:55.814 0.004 -0.000 0.005 15033 2005-05-05T04:18:55.814 0.002 0.000 0.002 15052 2005-05-06T17:53:55.814 0.002 -0.000 0.003 15073 2005-05-08T11:18:55.814 -0.007 -0.000 -0.008 15089 2005-05-09T17:28:55.814 0.001 -0.000 0.001 15110 2005-05-11T12:27:55.814 -0.001 -0.000 -0.002 15133 2005-05-13T09:54:55.814 0.002 -0.000 0.003 15154 2005-05-15T03:24:55.814 -0.002 0.000 -0.003 15174 2005-05-16T18:55:55.814 0.005 0.000 0.006 15194 2005-05-18T10:28:55.814 0.001 0.000 0.001 15214 2005-05-20T01:58:55.814 -0.002 0.000 -0.003 15234 2005-05-21T17:28:55.814 -0.003 0.000 -0.004 15258 2005-05-23T16:53:55.814 -0.002 0.000 -0.002 15279 2005-05-25T10:23:55.814 0.001 0.000 0.001 15297 2005-05-26T21:58:55.814 0.002 0.000 0.003 15318 2005-05-28T14:01:55.815 0.005 -0.000 0.003 15336 2005-05-30T03:02:55.815 -0.006 -0.000 -0.009 15358 2005-05-31T22:28:55.815 0.006 0.000 0.009 15378 2005-06-02T13:58:55.815 0.003 0.000 0.004 15397 2005-06-04T03:33:55.815 -0.004 -0.000 -0.006 15420 2005-06-06T00:58:55.815 -0.003 -0.000 -0.004 15442 2005-06-07T20:28:55.815 0.002 -0.000 0.003 15463 2005-06-09T13:58:55.815 0.001 0.000 0.001 15484 2005-06-11T07:29:55.815 0.005 0.000 0.008 15505 2005-06-13T00:59:55.815 -0.008 -0.000 -0.014 15528 2005-06-14T22:28:55.815 0.003 0.000 0.006 15548 2005-06-16T13:58:55.815 -0.001 -0.000 -0.001 15570 2005-06-18T09:23:55.815 -0.001 0.000 -0.002 15590 2005-06-20T00:58:55.815 -0.001 -0.000 -0.002 15614 2005-06-22T00:21:55.815 0.002 -0.000 0.004 15634 2005-06-23T15:52:55.815 0.003 -0.000 0.006 15655 2005-06-25T09:18:55.815 -0.000 -0.000 -0.000 15676 2005-06-27T02:48:55.815 0.002 0.000 0.004 15697 2005-06-28T20:23:55.815 0.000 0.000 0.000 15717 2005-06-30T11:53:55.815 0.001 0.000 0.001
