KPL/PCK Asteroid Vesta P_constants (PcK) SPICE kernel file -- GRV221108 Solution =========================================================================== Overview -------------------------------------------------------- This PCK provides Vesta rotation constants determined in 2022 by the DAWN Gravity Team, JPL in the process of deriving their Vesta shape and gravity models. Disclaimer -------------------------------------------------------- This constants file may not contain the parameter values that you prefer. Note that this file may be readily modified by you or anyone else. NAIF suggests that you inspect this file visually before proceeding with any critical or extended data processing. NAIF requests that you update the ``Version Description'' section if you modify the file. Version Description -------------------------------------------------------- Version 1.0 -- March 26, 2025 -- Boris Semenov Updated comments and formatting. No changes to data. Version 0.0 -- November 16, 2023 -- Ryan Park Contact Information -------------------------------------------------------- Ryan Park, ryan.s.park@jpl.nasa.gov References -------------------------------------------------------- Park, R. Nat Astron (2025). https://doi.org/10.1038/s41550-025-02533-7 Orientation constants for asteroid Vesta -------------------------------------------------------- The inertial reference frame for Vesta constants is J2000; this is the default reference frame for PCK orientation data. The Vesta rotation frame is consistent with the IAU definition where the ``Claudia Double-Prime'' defines the prime meridian. The epoch of the constants is J2000; this is Julian ephemeris date (JED) 2451545.0. The NAIF integer code for Vesta is 2000004. See the NAIF_IDs required reading for further information on NAIF integer codes. These rotation constants were used to produce and are consistent with the Vesta DSKs produced by the DAWN Gravity team in November 2022. \begindata BODY2000004_POLE_RA = ( 309.06109533038847 -0.2252128522309539 0.0002980197183368481 ) BODY2000004_POLE_DEC = ( 42.23238610238792 -0.0521838177833105 0.0001118346176992791 ) BODY2000004_PM = ( 284.643097580454 1617.333129223909 5.2334553e-12 ) BODY2000004_NUT_PREC_ANGLES = ( 26.566509485 19838.878002637 168.026198470 9919.202187455 5.055575123 29758.039028106 -15.607636417 39676.994986013 -159.442877134 19838.866373438 58.798564366 9919.394190215 -179.720293586 29758.046461662 159.974278450 39677.008537217 206.939195799 19836.803624310 -11.010108055 9916.079099222 187.554206944 29746.219709751 ) BODY2000004_NUT_PREC_RA = ( 0.000658148 0.000377107 0.000138933 0.000022700 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. ) BODY2000004_NUT_PREC_DEC = ( 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.000540323 0.000126657 0.000113727 0.000018566 0. 0. 0. ) BODY2000004_NUT_PREC_PM = ( 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.000443671 0.000252070 0.000092872 ) \begintext Radii for asteroid Vesta -------------------------------------------------------- These Vesta radii are consistent with the Vesta DSKs produced by the DAWN Gravity team in November 2022. \begindata BODY2000004_RADII = ( 284.62 277.24 226.33 ) \begintext GM for asteroid Vesta -------------------------------------------------------- This GM value is consistent with the Vesta DSKs produced by the DAWN Gravity team in November 2022. \begindata BODY2000004_GM = ( 17.2882844 ) \begintext End of PCK file.
