Dear SPICE Users,

Sorry for repeating an earlier announcement about a new leap second and corresponding new LSK, but it's very important and perhaps some of you have not yet taken action.

Since many SPICE users have not subscribed to this announcement system, consider forwarding this announcement to any of your colleagues who may also be using SPICE. Providing such a "helping hand" could be especially important since this is the first new leap second in three years, so those new to SPICE may not fully appreciate what is happening.

                           ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The International Earth Rotation Service (IERS) has announced a new, positive leap second will be added at end of day (midnight) on June 30, 2015. This new leap second will affect time conversions for times occuring only on and after July 01, 2015.

The leapseconds kernels (LSK) on the NAIF server have already been updated accordingly. The two versions, one for Unix/Linux/Mac (naif0011.tls) and one for PCs running Windows (naif0011.tls.pc) are available from the usual location on the NAIF server:

      http://naif.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/naif/generic_kernels/lsk/

These new LSKs can be used now in any SPICE-based applications dealing with time conversions for times occuring on or after July 01, 2015, unless you wish to maintain time tag consistency with a previously generated product. Simply replace your current LSK (name style naif0010.tls unless you or a colleague changed the file name) with naif0011.tls.
