Generic and MESSENGER Specific SPICE Documentation
==================================================

   The complete set of generic SPICE documentation describing SPICE
   Kernel file formats and the ways data in the kernels can be accessed
   using SPICE System Toolkit is distributed with the toolkit. Refer to
   the ``softinfo.txt'' document in the ``/software'' directory of this
   volume for more information regarding obtaining SPICE Toolkit.

   The MESSENGER data specific documentation is included within actual
   data files -- in the description area of the SPICE text kernel files
   (LSK, SCLK, text PCK, FK) or in the comments area of the SPICE
   binary kernel files (SPK, CK, binary PCK, EK) -- and can be viewed
   using any text editor (for text files) or COMMNT/SPACIT utility
   programs distributed with SPICE System toolkit (for binary files.)

   In addition to the documentation described above this directory
   contains the following documents:

      lblinfo.txt        contains description the location and naming
                         of the PDS labels in this data set

      onlabels.txt       contains description of the keywords and
                         values found in the PDS labels for kernel
                         files

      sea_2003_024.pdf   contains a description of the MESSENGER SCLK
                         file format

      sea_2007_010.pdf   contains a caveat concerning the relativistic
                         nature of the time correlations provided by
                         the SCLK file. THIS DOCUMENT IS SUPERSEDED by
                         seg_14_005.pdf

      seg_14_005.pdf     contains a discussion of the relativistic nature
                         of the time correlations provided by the SCLK kernel.
                         This document supersedes and replaces
                         sea_2007_010.pdf
                         
      stark_prime_meridian.pdf
                         describes the derivation of the Mercury prime
                         meridian used for the final MESSENGER products

      spkrecon/
                         directory containing documents and supporting files
                         that describe the the three segments of orbital
                         reconstructions done by the MESSENGER Navigation Team
                         and incorporated into the spacecraft ephemeris kernel
                         data/spk/msgr_040803_150430_150430_od431sc_2.bsp.
                         These documents are described further in

      msgr_pck_hun_kal_impact_stmt.pdf
                         describes the impact of updates to the MESSENGER
                         Mercury coordinate system used for the final
                         MESSENGER products on the location of Hun Kal crater

                         provides the Mercury coordinate system parameters
