From annex at caltech.edu Sun Sep 3 09:27:27 2023 From: annex at caltech.edu (Annex, Andrew M.) Date: Sun, 3 Sep 2023 16:27:27 +0000 Subject: [Spice_discussion] SpiceyPy v6.0.0 has been released Message-ID: Hello fellow guild navigators! SpiceyPy v6.0.0 has been released and is available on PyPI and conda-forge. Release notes are available at https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://github.com/AndrewAnnex/SpiceyPy/releases/tag/v6.0.0__;!!PvBDto6Hs4WbVuu7!L_6rBlVnoJz-7UGiWRqPadjqmk88vPlFd51TCtYQixS1hpawNlAZiywiGDEYTRxhvRyoS4AO0EDi5JTYdEzwi6cyHN29eew$ . Users are encouraged to update to this latest version to avoid important bugs in sphlat, tkfram, and private zzdynrot (now deprecated) functions. Also note that official support for Python 3.6 and 3.7 has been dropped as per the EOL for those versions of Python since the last release. It may be still possible to install the latest version of SpiceyPy to those versions of Python, but support is not guaranteed. Finally, the current documentation page is not rendering correctly due to issues upstream. I hope those issues will be resolved in the next few weeks, so until then you may also use the documentation page for v5.1.2 for mostly-up-to-date information. -Andrew -- Andrew M. I am currently working with DiFX, an astronomy software, to process satellite-related data. While going through the control file, I noticed that it requires specifications for three files: naifFile, ephemObject, and ephemFile. In the documentation provided at https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://www.atnf.csiro.au/vlbi/dokuwiki/doku.php/difx/vex2difx__;!!PvBDto6Hs4WbVuu7!IDFtMQlAcXkRUih2XwImnaKIl5iuNHmy8X0ZY1FzbJyQtcwWSXjuC5JkYbgcRjULTZlPLamIlFkwkdkYkErhoVuGql50VkVLlvI$ , I came across the following information: - naifFile: Path to a leap second kernel file for SPICE. This parameter is only used with near-field correlations. - ephemObject: Name of the object from the ephemFile to be associated with this source. This parameter is only used for near-field correlations. - ephemFile: Path to a planetary ephemeris file for SPICE. This parameter is only used with near-field correlations. bsp or tle files are allowed. However, I am uncertain about the specific data formats required for naifFile and ephemFile. Additionally, I am unsure where to obtain the naifFile ?leap second kernel file?. Could you kindly provide guidance on these matters? Any information or resources you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your assistance.
